THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S, February 9th, 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT When we commit our battles to the Lord, victory is guaranteed. HYMN: STAND UP! STAND UP FOR JESUS! INTRODUCTION: Battle means fight or problems or threats or struggles or afflictions which everyone must contend with as long as there is breath in that individual. These battles can be physical, spiritual, financial, or otherwise and being a believer does not immune one from them. We suffer sickness, disease, emotional and physical pain, financial problems etc. The battle becomes more ferocious when orchestrated by the devil in his attempts to lure us away from serving the Almighty God. From our text, David was not a trained soldier so he could not use the armor of war that King Saul gave him. He depended wholly on God who delivered him from the lion and the bear to also deliver him from the uncircumcised Philistine. Thus, with five stones and a catapult, he overcame the giant who terrorized the army of Israel for forty days. It is sad to know that some Christians these days give up or quit in times of affliction instead of trusting God for divine intervention. The answer may delay but God will not deny us our blessings and victory. We must remind ourselves at this point that no matter the battle, our weapons which are not carnal but spiritual, are mighty for the pulling down of strongholds and every imagination that exalts itself above God. Moreover, we are not alone in these battles, for our God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us at any time. He is a very present help in times of troubles. All we need to do is trust and call on Him, live a life of obedience and holiness and we will never suffer any defeat.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To know that our battles are God’s own battles. 2. To understand that as believers we are constantly at war with a vicious enemy. 3. To list some of the daily battles we face. 4. To know what could hinder our victory   BIBLE TRUTH: Question 1.)  WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY “THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S? When we decided to turn away from our sins and accept God’s forgiveness we became His children. As God’s children we are His delight and occupy a special place in His heart. The Scripture makes us understand that as God’s children we are the apple of his eyes (Deut. 32:10, Zech. 2:8). This means that we are precious in His sight. In this position the Lord takes special care of us, the believers. The Biblical children of God are the Israelites and we can best understand how our battles, troubles and needs become His when we consider the ways He dealt with them. REMEMBERING GOD AT THE ZERO HOUR, February 2nd, 2020

  HYMN: ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIER     CENTRAL THOUGHT Victory awaits the believer who patiently goes through difficult times.   TEXT: Job 3:1-26, Matt. 11:1-6 INTRODUCTION Ordinarily, the journey of life is characterized by confrontations, unforeseen contingencies, disappointments, harassment and oppositions. For the believer there is an added dimension to these because we are the targets of the devil who does not desire us to serve the Almighty God. Thus, he goes all the way to place obstacles in the way of the believer. The zero hour is that moment or situation of helplessness, hopelessness, despondency, despair, disgust, and utter confusion. These are the times of such remarks as “I am fed up”, “Life if not worth living”, “There is no use continuing”, “I am a failure”, etc. Amidst situations such as these, many contemplate all sorts of evil things such as visiting native doctors, joining occultic groups or even suicide. Some indulge in alcohol drinking and all manner of immorality and sin. Some believers too react negatively by backsliding and seeking false helps from unholy sources. John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus Christ (Luke 1:44); he introduced Him to the people as the Lamb of God that will take away the sin of the world, (John 1:29) and he baptized Jesus in the river Jordan, (Matt. 3:11-15). However, at his zero hour when Herod imprisoned him, he needed assurance as to whether Jesus is the expected Messiah. In one of his dark moments Job cursed the day he was born and wished he was never born. This was a man that God testified “Hast thou considered my servant Job, there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil”? No matter how holy and righteous we may be, we are not immune from the situation of the zero hour. It comes not to humiliate us or make us to turn away from God but to humble us. This lesson is meant to let us know that in such times we should direct our hearts on to God. These are not the times for giving up. The champions of faith never gave up despite all odds and they are our examples to follow.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. The zero hour is that time or situation where one appears completely hopeless, helpless and devoid of any positive ideas. The individual draws blank and appears to have no human ideas on how to solve the pending problem. At the zero hour, the individual is almost overwhelmed by the situation. It is like a boxer who has been cornered by his opponent and helpless to fight back, thereby facing an imminent defeat.   ABUNDANT LIFE HYMN: TO GOD BE THE GLORY!   CENTRAL THOUGHT: Life is Christ’s gift and He is “the life”.   TEXT: John 10:1-30 INRODUCTION We live in a world where people’s cravings are for the original, the genuine; the real thing. Everyone wants to prove that he is real. The Lord Jesus Christ, in our study text, compares the real with the fake, and the thief with the provider (supplier). If the world ever needed the comparison, it is now! The thief is pretentious; he puts up an appearance that he does not want to deceive. He is not what you see; he is a hypocrite; his interest is in himself. A vital companion characteristic of stealing is lying. Thus, the devil is a thief and a liar, and everyone with either trait or both belongs to the father of lies, the devil (John 8:44, 10:10). The Lord is our father, our dearly beloved creator who holds us in honor and value. He is the embodiment of truth. The truth opens the way, and the way leads to life. Sin has separated man from the truth, the way and the life (John 14:6), who is reality! Man is now faced with darkness, lies and death. He lost real life to the devil at Eden and since then has remained in touch with the evil master of sin (Gen. 3:11, 22-24) who keeps stealing every bit of truth that comes man’s way. The devil presents worldly goods as real life, worth craving, working for and even dying for (see 1 John 2:15-17). He makes acquisition of wealth and/or a show of it to look like the reason why God made man. The devil deceives further, by making people believe that some people are better than others, i.e. because of their skin color, etc. By these and more, he robs man of real life. He provides these temporal issues to steal away the real, permanent issue; eternity. Funeral services are common services, yet man has not learned to face eternity. In our lesson today, the Lord Jesus Christ invites us to embrace the truth rather than darkness, and life rather than death. Anyone who has not accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior does not have life in him (1 John 1:5-7, 3:7-17, 5:11, 12,20). This life he lacks is life to the full!     LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To understand abundant life 2. To know which class of people possess life to the fullest. 3.       CENTRAL THOUGHT: God who is our source is ever willing to answer our needs.   HYMN: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD   TEXT: Matt. 7:7-11, John 14:13-14, James 4:1-4   INTRODUCTION: The believer in Christ has every reason to be perpetually joyful because of the tremendous promises of God as a result of the finished work that Christ has accomplished by His death and resurrection. The promises contain the benefits, rights, privileges, inheritances, and blessings for the believer. Since these benefits have been duly paid for by Christ, it is futile for anyone to strive to attain them by his own strength or effort. These benefits are free for those already washed in the blood of Christ. In this lesson, we want to establish how a believer can fully appropriate these promises and benefits. The phrase “Receiving from God” simply means getting from God. There is the giver and there is the receiver. The giver who is superior is the Almighty God who gives liberally to whosoever wishes to receive (receiver). This study hopes to acquaint “whosoever” chooses or wishes to be a receiver with the conditions of receiving from the Almighty giver. David recognized that it is only God that could give, hence he trusted wholeheartedly in the Almighty God. Therefore, we should note that our help comes only from the Lord.  LESSON OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study are: 1. To know what the phrase “Receiving from God” means. 2. To know that God wants you receive from Him. 3. To know some of the things that can hinder us from receiving from God. 4. To understand these conditions that will make us receive from God.   BIBLE TRUTH:  Question 1. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE PHRASE “RECEIVING FROM GOD”? Receiving from God means getting from God. God’s care of human beings and all He has created, is manifested in His dealings with man. God did not create man to leave him uncatered to and without direction. In the garden of Eden, He made provision for the first man (Gen. 1:29-30). God went further to provide for the spiritual needs of man. This He did by the promise of the Son of the LORD, Jesus Christ, as the seed of the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent (Gen. 3:15). Receiving from God is therefore an act of getting those things He has provided for us. It includes an appropriation of His promises to us as revealed in scripture. The Almighty God gives liberally to whosoever wishes to receive. He is the giver who knows what we have need for. We only receive those things which God judges are right for us to receive. We are therefore free to believe God for those things which He has promised in His word to give us. Q2. DOES GOD WANT YOU TO RECEIVE FROM HIM?   HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD CENTRAL THOUGHT Tithe and Offering are obligations of the Christian done in honor to God.   TEXT: Mal 3:7-12, Prov. 3:9-10, Gen 14:18-20 INTRODUCTION The payment of tithe was first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 14:20 when Abraham gave tithes of his goods to Melchizedek; the priest of the Most High God. However, the tithing system was practiced exclusively during the time of Moses (Lev. 27:30-34; Deut. 14:22) and the Israelites were expected to give one tenth of their earnings in cash or kind for the upkeep of the Levites and administration of the Temple. This continued until the time of Malachi when the people of Israel refused to give tithes and the Levites went to work to earn a living, thereby neglecting their God-given responsibilities to care for the Temple and worship. God became angry and unhappy with His people for their refusal to give tithe and offering.In the present-day Church, the main source of income is through tithe and offering. Without it, financial obligations to both Pastors and members will be left unattended to. This makes it imperative for every believer to pay his tithe and give offering for the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth. Deferred payment or part payment is not encouraged as it attracts twenty percent interest, Lev. 27:31. Every believer should be taught that to tithe is an honor to the Lord and that it is part of true worship. They should be encouraged to honor God with their tithe and offering willingly and cheerfully if they are to reap God’s benefit in this respect. People should not be compelled to give under any guise as they will not be blessed if they give grudgingly. On the other hand, believers who do not pay tithe give room to the devil to devour the labor of their hands and afflict their bodies with sicknesses and diseases. This group of believers bring reproach to the name of the Lord when their businesses are not blessed and they are always down with one sickness or the other. In conclusion, every believer should endeavor to pay his tithe monthly, weekly, or daily as the case may be and give offering in proportion to God’s blessing upon his life each time he goes to the Church for service. This is capable of attracting God’s blessings in all ramifications.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To know what tithe and offering means. 2.
