Ambassadors for Christ     Central Thought: All believers in Christ are His representatives her on earth.   Hymn: Onward Christian Solders Text: 2 Corinthians 5:1-21     From the beginning of creation, God had a purpose and will for man on the earth. The first man, Adam and his wife, Eve carried out God’s divine will for the earth until they were contaminated by sin. Man therefore surrendered his authority to Satan who then began to do his will and purpose.  Man’s values, orientation, desires, style of operations, etc., were then at variance with his original state of life, which was God-kind of life.  Man could no longer relate with God and His righteousness, Romans 3:23; Psalm 14:2-3.  However, through God’s infinite love and mercy, He sent His only begotten Son to restore man back to Himself.  Man has been restored and reconciled back to God through Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection.  To this end, God’s plan of reconciling the world back to Himself is to be done by all who have been saved by the Lord Jesus Christ.  They are to carry the message of reconciliation to all those who are still under Satan’s domain.  This means that Christ Jesus has sent us as His ambassadors to the world.     Lesson Objectives: To identify and describe who an ambassador for Christ is… To identify specific things about the appointment, duties and privileges of an ambassador. To discuss the qualities of an ambassador. To explain the value of what an ambassador is expected to accomplish. To explain the danger involved when an ambassador falls short of what is expected of him.   1a. Who is an ambassador for Christ? An ambassador is a representative of a ruling authority such as a nation, an organization, or belief. He/she is always chosen from the rank of mature, experienced men to represent the government of his country in a foreign land.  It implies that such a person must be a citizen of that country.  To be able to represent his country, he should be fully acquainted with the values, orientation, culture, tradition, policies, etc. of his country.  This will enable him not to work at cross purposes with his country in a foreign land.  One of his greatest benefits is that he enjoys diplomatic immunity. Similarly, an ambassador for Christ must first be born again to enjoy the citizenship of heaven. One cannot work for a kingdom which one does not know.  For Christ’s ambassador to effectively function, he must be equipped with the word of God which gives him the values, orientation, culture, tradition and policies of heave.  Christ ambassador also enjoys divine, diplomatic immunity through the operations of the Holy Spirit.   1b. Identify specific things about the appointment, duties and privileges of an ambassador. -Appointment of and Ambassador: Only a citizen of a county can be appointed an ambassador of that country. He should be appointed from the rank of mature and experienced persons in the country and should also be fully acquainted with the values, culture, tradition, policies of his country. -Duties of an Ambassador: An ambassador represents the interests of his home country in a foreign country. He translates his home government (Kingdom) policies and decisions to the foreign country where he is a diplomat. ...

Exercising Faith in God’s Faithfulness 2/26/17-3/5/17

Central Thought: The Believers confidence should be In the Lord God Almighty, who is Forever Faithful   Hymn: When we walk with the Lord Text: Proverbs 3:5-6, Mark 11:22-24, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Hebrews 10:23, 1 Peter 4:19   Introduction: Faithfulness is one of the attributes of God. This refers to His divine nature of adhering firmly to His expressed cause and of being reliable and worthy of trust. It is this character of God that galvanizes confidence in the heart of every believer who has this knowledge. The scripture is very clear and emphatic of the fact that God is a covenant keeper, and that His word can be trusted at all times. In Him there is no variableness of shadow of turning. Trusting in God’s faithfulness is a disposition that ought to be evident in the life of every believer. Trust in a higher authority is an indication of allegiance steadfastness, loyalty and devotion. To trust in God’s faithfulness is to take and present Him as reliable and dependable in all circumstances of life. So we should live in such a way that our lives truly reflect our trust in His faithfulness. This study is therefore intended to remind us that God cannot compromise His faithfulness, and that it is up to us to connect with Him.   Lesson Objectives: To explain why we have to trust in God To identify when to trust in God To explain how to trust in God’s faithfulness To list possible hindrances to trusting in God To list the benefits in trusting God’s faithfulness   Question 1.) Why do we need to exercise faith (trust) in God’s faithfulness? To trust in God’s faithfulness is to sincerely accept His divine nature that He is capable and willing to keep to His promises for our good, and to see Him as reliable and dependable at all times. There are several reasons for which we must continue to trust in the faithfulness of God. Some of them are: According to Proverbs 3:5-6, it is an instruction from God to us, to trust Him with all our hearts, and He will direct our paths. So it is God’s expectation of the believer to repose confidence in Him. God does not disappoint (Numbers 23:19) He keeps to His word. In Him there is no variableness and no shadow of turning. He has the ability to execute whatsoever He purposes to do (Luke 1:37). There can be no obstacle on His way. He made provision for us right from creation and unto eternity (Ephesians 2:5-7). Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ this provision is a reality made possible by His grace and the Holy Spirit. He is the owner of the whole world (Psalm 24:1) and it is His good pleasure to give us the kingdom (Luke 12:32). He has defeated every enemy and has promised to save us in the day of trouble, provided we call upon Him in faith God is ever present with us in situation of life (Isaiah 43:2). He alone truly understands how we feel. The atonement wrought through the blood of Jesus is an eternal one and will never lose its power. The class may suggest additional reasons why we need to exercise faith in God’s faithfulness.   Question 2.)...

Central Thought: Victory is assured in the Lord Jesus Christ   Hymn: Christian seek not yet repose Text: John 8:44, Matthew 4:1-11, James 4:7-8   Introduction: The devil is the arch-enemy of God and man. He is a created spirit being who was initially well- favored by God, but lost out due to pride and rebellion against God. Ever since he lost his position with God, he has used both direct and subtle means to attack anything related to God. Lying and deception are his traits, and in doing this, he has his own synagogue, ministers and doctrines, often times, carefully packaged to attract the gullible and to appear divine. Matthew 4:1-11 presents the encounter of our Lord Jesus Christ with this same devil. Three harmless looking temptations were carefully packaged and presented to our Lord. None of them is as a direct invitation to sin. But they were primed to promote divine disobedience, self-will, and self-pleasure, and an ungodly shortcut to break through. Satan has been in the business of presenting quick alternatives to man and this has brought a lot of agony to the same man. Examples include Adam and Eve on the issue of the forbidden fruit, Abraham on the issues of delayed childbirth, Jacob on the issue of birthright, and Moses on the issue of water from the rock. In the context of this study, a device is an invention, contrivance or strategy designed to deceive and thereby control another. In this study we shall expose some of the devices of the devil and will suggest ways we could tackle them.   Lesson Objectives: To explain the expression “Devices of the devil” To identify both direct and subtle devices of the devil To list the scriptural prescriptions against the devices of the devil To discuss the scriptural basis for overcoming the devil and his devices   Question 1.) Explain the term “Devices of the devil”. The devil was a chief cherub with God (Ezekiel 28:12-17); Isaiah 14:12-17). By creation, he was extremely beautiful, very wise, and occupied a position of rare privilege in the kingdom of God. He became arrogant, proud and corrupted to the extent that he led a rebellion against God. His rebellion was defeated by angels loyal to God, led by another arch-cherub called Michael. He was cast out of heaven, and has since then terrorized the earth with all evil devices.   The devices of the devil refer to all crafty strategies or inventions of the devil targeted at the human race, and intended to cause a breach in cordial relationship with God. It includes all inventions that promote rebellion against godliness through direct confrontation, subtle misrepresentation or ordinance of man.   Question 2.) List and explain some of the devices of the devil John 8:44; 13:2; Hebrews 10:25; James 3:14-15; 1 Corinthians 7:5.   The devices of the devil can be classified into two broad groups for easy understanding. These are the direct devices and the subtle devices. Direct devices.   Central thought: The Christian is God’s instrument for building a Godly nation.   Hymn: Onward Christian Soldier Text: Romans 13:1-7, 2 Chronicles 7:11-16, Nehemiah 1:1-4; 2:2-6   Introduction:  Nation Building is one area of earthly life where the church has not been very forthcoming. The church has not been able to go beyond the tripod of preach, pray and complain when it comes to issues of governance of our nation. When it comes to definition, the word nation is referred to as a community of people with some common heritage. National instructions as agencies whose main focus ought to be to mobilize, aggregate and harness citizens and resources to do the will of God, and to ensure the common good of all. If this is well understood, it clearly follows that great nations can only be built by Godly men, on Godly principles. Nations of the world are groping in darkness and backwardness because of absence of leaders with proper mindset, commitment and zeal to do the will of God. The word of God has revealed to us, before time, where good leadership and prosperity can be found (2 Chronicles 7:14). At this time in our National life, the people of God must rise up to the occasion by hearkening to the voice of God and by showing ourselves as models of good citizenship. The “How and Why” is the focus of this study. Lesson Objectives: To highlight the responsibilities of the believer to his nation as a citizen To identify the purpose of Government and how we can contribute to its attainment To identify major areas of shortcomings by believers in the past and present dispensations To suggest the way forward for believers today   Q.1.) How would you objectively assess the nations of the world today? There’s a prevalence of under development in some nations of the world due to poverty, corruption, insecurity, unemployment and general mismanagement in government. Nations are discriminated against by other supposed superior nations. There is increased religious inclination by higher level of moral bankruptcy. Other nations have enthroned satanic policies in governance, hence the upsurge of violence, restiveness and general insecurity. A sober reflection on the state of our nation will compel believers to mourn (fast and pray), to intercede for God’s mercy and grace, and to preach a National repentance. Nehemiah, Mordecai and Daniel are some examples of believers who were patriotic enough to bear national burden.   Q.2.) Enumerate some responsibilities of the Christian in Nation Building. Nations are built by her patriotic citizens, not by foreigners, and not by wealth. As believers in Christ and as citizens of our nations, there are God- given responsibilities we must consciously execute or our nation to be great. Some of them are as follows: To conduct ourselves in a lawful manner by obeying rules and regulations enacted for the common good for all citizens. To be patriotic through our support for and participation in genuine National causes, and all activities that promote acceptance, unity and progress. To pay our taxes and rates to government for the provision and maintenance of social infrastructure and for the sustenance of public institutions. The Man Samson- Empowered to do exploits: 2/5/17- 2/11/17

Central Thought: Toying with sin certainly destroys. Hymn: “Christian, seek not yet repose”   Text: Judges 14:1-20 1 Corinthians 10:11-14 Introduction: Samson was born with a lot of potentials. He was to be God’s instrument to rescue Israel from the oppression and grip of the Philistines. To accomplish his mandate, God empowered him with enormous strength. He was inspired and stirred up by the Spirit of God to accomplish his mission as judge and deliverer in Israel, Judges 13:25. Though known for his feats of strength and listed in the Hall of faith (Heb. 11:32-34), he fell as a result of disobedience, carelessness, and uncontrollable habit. Considering the level of laxity in our time, this study is not only timely, but also a serious warning to the believer of today. Some of us are living with such a false confidence today that we cannot fall. We shall in this study consider the life of Samson who though highly anointed by God (i.e. empowered), and enjoyed much of His grace, fell at the end and died with his enemies. Lesson Objectives: To examine the place of Samson in the history of Israel. To identify the instructions given to his Mother. To discuss the exploits of Samson To note the factors that led to Samson’s final fall   Q 1.) Who was Samson and what role was he to play in Israel? Judges 13:2-5   The man Samson was the son of Manoah of the tribe of Dan. Dan signifies a judge or judgement was pronounced by Jacob while blessing his sons in Genesis 49:16-17. His mother was barren for a long time, but in fulfillment of God’s promises He gave Manoah and his wife a son who was named Samson. The nation of Israel did what was evil in the sight of God, and God delivered them into the hand of the Philistines who oppressed them for 40 years, Judges 13:1. However, God in His mercy promised to give a son to Manoah and his wife who “shall begin to deliver Israel” Judges 13:5. Samson was that promised son and his mandate was to begin to rescue Israel from the hand of the Philistines. Q.2.) Identify the Instructions given to his mother. Do you have similar instructions from the Lord and why? Judges 13:4-7, 1 Peter 2:9, Isaiah 52:11, 2 Corinthians 6:17 The son promised to Manoah and his wife was to be a Nazarite (Judges 13:5), which meant he was to be “consecrated” or “dedicated” to God. Samson’s mother was therefore instructed not to drink wine or strong drink, eat no unclean or forbidden food, not to cut the hair of her son who shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb. A Nazarite often takes a vow to be dedicated and given wholly to the service of God. He was expected not to cut his hair, touch a dead body or take strong drinks (Numbers 6:1-8). The mother had to observe some of the Nazarite guidelines perhaps to set example for the child; Judges 13:14. It should be noted that Samson was anointed (empowered) from his Mother’s womb. Central Thought: It is of great value to prayerfully start a Spiritual revival/reformation, receive grace to sustain it and finish strong.   Hymn: “Guide me O thou great Jehovah” Text: 2 Chronicles 14:1-15, 15: 1-19 Introduction: Asa was the son and the successor of Abijah and King of Judah. He was the third King of Judah, one who restored true worship to Judah (1 Kings 15:8-15) and he reigned for 41 years. The Scriptures testify that King Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord, his God (2 Chronicles14:2). He was a pious man who instituted several reforms to remove foreign gods and foreign religious practices form the land. Part of his strategies to institute the reform was the removal of his idolatrous Mother from being Queen Mother (political power) in order to purge the land of idolatry. Although, the account of 1st Kings 15 tells us that Asa’s heart was loyal to the Lord all his days (1 Kings 15:14), Chronicles explains that in his later years, he departed from his total devotion to God (2 Chronicles 16:1-14). This gives credence to the scriptures that says, “let him that thinketh he standeth take heed, lest he falls…”. There is the need therefore for believers to start the Christian race well, run it well, and finish it well. Be confident that when you wholeheartedly seek God, you will find him. Rejoice in knowing that the Lord is searching for people like you whose hearts will be loyal to Him, that He may strengthen and support and use for His glory. Make yourself available. Lesson Objectives: Explain why it was said that “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God” Discuss reasons why it was possible for Asa to build fortified cities in Judah Identify and explain the warnings given to Asa by prophet Azariah Discuss Asa’s response to prophet Azariah’s warning Identify and discuss the events that led to the fall of Asa, the great reformer   1.A.) Why was it said that “Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God” (2 Chronicles 14:2-5) Asa was a reformer and he promptly set out to purge the land of idolatry. He banished the perverted persons from the land and removed all the idols that his father, Abijam had set up, he drove out the Sodomites from the land, and removed his idolatrous grand mother, Maachah from being Queen mother. It is refreshing to see a King over Judah spoken of by God in this way. Asa pointed Judah to the Bible while seeking the ways of God, and following the word of God ensured serenity, rest, and peace which the land witnessed. 1.B.) What made it possible for him to Build fortified cities in Judah? 2 Chronicles 14:6-8 King Asa built fenced /fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest and had no war in those years, because the Lord had given him rest.
