SUBMISSION, May 10th, 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT Submission is a pathway to upliftment.   HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD TEXT: 1 Peter 2:11- 3:8 INTRODUCTION Human life in an ordered society requires some levels of authority. God intends that some people exercise power and authority over others for the collective good of all. A serious problem occurs, however, when someone who has such God-given authority and power does not know how to use them. Peter advised younger people to submit themselves to the elders 1 Peter 5:5. He also reminded all believers irrespective of their positions in life to be submissive to one another and to be clothed with humility. He went on to say that God “gives grace to the humble” and that God would exalt such a person “in due time” 1 Peter 5:6. Submission was the true nature of our Savior when He was here one earth physically. The will of the Father was invariably His will. John 4:34. Matt 25:39. God does not expect anything less than that from His children. We are to submit our lives, possessions, and will to Him at all times. In addition, God has set up authorities in homes, churches, offices, and societies to regulate relationships. Submission to such authorities is submission...

TRUST, May 3rd 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT The hearts of those who have learned to rely on the Lord for everything are free from anxiety.   HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD TEXT: Prov. 3:1-18 INTRODUCTION The dictionary defines trust as “a firm belief in the reliability, honesty, veracity, justice and strength of a person or thing”. Essentially then, trust is confidence that we have about a person or thing. There is a tendency to think that trust is a spiritual quality which pertains strictly to our relationship with the Lord, but it is an essential posture of life that is called upon for day to day living. It would be very difficult to successfully go through a single day without exercising an element of trust. Relationships between people in corporate, family, and social worlds are governed by trust. When trust is lacking, suspicion takes the center stage and the relationship falls apart. Our relationship with the Lord depends largely on our ability to trust Him and His word. Trust in the Lord must be implicit, complete and total. This is the most important kind of trust and it exceeds the trust that governs human relationships. When we trust Him, then we are able to exercise faith to believe Him in all situations....

LOVING JESUS, April 26th, 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT Loving Christ is the pre-requisite to a fulfilled life. HYMN: MY JESUS I LOVE THEE Text: John 14:15-24, 1 John 4:7-21, 5:1-5 Introduction: Love is a strong feeling of fondness for another person, especially between members of a family or close friends. It is also to feel love, desire or strong friendship for, and to have strong liking for, or take pleasure in something or someone (Longman dictionary of contemporary English). The Bible could be seen as one big love story Book about God’s family (Mat. 22:37-40). That God loves us is evident in John 3:16, Rom. 5:8 says, “But God commendeth His love toward us that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. Therefore, if Christ died for us it behooves us to reciprocate by responding to His love in total submission, obedience and sincere services. It is unfortunate to observe that there are many people today who have not responded to this love. They believe in Him in a certain sense but they have never really experienced deep in their hearts how warm, real, tender, loving and gracious He really is. It is because their hearts are so fondly wrapped around the earthly ream. To love the Lord, there must be a...

JUSTIFICATION, April 19th, 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT Justification is God’s act of declaring us “not guilty”, of our sins. HYMN: AMAZING GRACE! HOW SWEET THE SOUND Text: Romans 4:25, 5:1-11, 18 Introduction: By the act of justification, the Lord Jesus Christ ushers us into the presence of God. We now have peace with God: not merely a subjective feeling (peace of mind), but primarily an objective status, a new relationship with God: once we were His enemies, but now we are His friends (see Romans 5:10; Eph. 2:16, Col. 1:21-22). Once we were separated from Him, now we are joined (united) (Phil. 2:1, Rom. 6:5) with Him by Christ. The Almighty God declares, “not guilty”, all that would run into Christ. In Num. 21:8-9, the Holy scriptures recorded the “strange” cure to snake bite that the children of Israel were receiving. A bronze snake was hung on the pole; anyone who was bitten by a snake and looked at it lived. The Lord Jesus Christ brought a fuller meaning to this event in Johh 3:14, 15, where he explained that just as the Israelites were healed of their sickness by looking at the snake on the pole, all believers today can be saved from sickness of sin by looking to Jesus’ death on...

THE LIVING HOPE, April 12th, 2020

CENTRAL THOUGHT Hope based on the power of the risen Christ is a sure and unfailing one. HYMN: CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY   Text: 1 Corinthians 15:12-58 Introduction: The resurrection of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the basis of the Christian faith. Its acceptance as an event of history provides the foundation for having faith in the scriptures and for living and dying for the truth of the scriptures. Without the resurrection of Christ, there is no Christianity. Without the resurrection of Christ, there can be no guarantee of a life after death. It thus gives hope to our beliefs. People have all kinds of hopes and expectations, there are those who at the moment are penniless, but who hope that in not too distant time they will have the financial resources to build a house and buy a good car. Others have the expectation that they will acquire a university degree, and still others dream of the day that they will have a very lucrative job. While everyone has a right to have hope or expectation on anything the human mind can dream about, there are hopes which will not materialize and thus bring disappointment, and there are those that will be fulfilled....
