CENTRAL THOUGHT The resurrection of Christ is the basis for the glorious hope of the saints. TEXT: MATT. 28:1-10; 1COR. 15:1-20. INTRODUCTION Christ’s death, burial and resurrection are so significant in Christian faith that the gospel will not be complete without them. ‘But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen… Our proclaiming is in vain… we are found false witnesses of God… your faith is in vain, ye are yet in in your sins and we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead and become the first fruits of them that slept’1Cor. 15:13-20. The evidence of this truth is the empty tomb, the witnesses of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who is still bearing witness to all who believe the scriptures that God cannot lie. This study shall focus on the significance of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus and the evidence to prove them. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To consider the significance of the death and burial of Jesus Christ To appreciate the evidence that Christ is risen To understand the benefits of Christ’s resurrection to the...
Learn MoreCENTRAL THOUGHT The peace with God through Christ’s suffering. Text: Matthew 27:27-54 INTODUCTION The word Passion as used Galatians 5:24 can be defined as strong feeling, intense desire or enthusiasm towards something. It is also referred to as affection and lust of the flesh. Paul in his letter said “those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh and its passion and desires”. However, when Passion is used in relation to Jesus Christ, it refers to his suffering and death, in which case it is prefixed by the word “The”, The Passion (of Jesus Christ). In the Christian world, this period is referred to as the “The Passion Week”. It starts from “Palm Sunday” when Jesus triumphantly entered into Jerusalem as a king, through to “Good Friday”, when he was crucified. In our study, we shall examine some of the agonies and pains experienced by our Lord Jesus during “The Passion Week”. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To Critically examine Christ suffering. To understand why He needed to go through all the sufferings. To understand how we are to reciprocate the sacrifice of Christ for us. To examine Christ seven last statements on the cross. To identify some of the miraculous events that accompanied the death of Christ....
Learn MoreCENTRAL THOUGHT The Lord expects believers to be united. TEXT: Psalm 133: 1-3, John 17:21-23, Ephesians 4:1-6. INTRODUCTION The Lord Jesus Christ prayed for the unity of his disciples as we have read in John 17. The unity that Jesus prayed for was not organizational unity but spiritual unity based on believing in Him. Amos 3:3 asked; can two walk together except they be agreed? This question is so pertinent for us to understand the importance of brethren walking in unity. If we have known and experienced the love of the Father and the fellowship of Christ, we ought to obey the injunction of our Lord that we love one another as He has loved us. It is only by loving one another that we can be united as the body of Christ, each of us carry out our functions to complement each other. What Jesus has in mind was not ordinary fellowship but one that endeavors to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. It is spiritual unity of heart, purpose, mind, and will in those who are fully devoted to Him. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To understand the meaning of unity. To comprehend how to work...
Learn MoreCENTRAL THOUGHT The good of the land is for the obedient heart. TEXT: Isaiah 1: 16-20. INTRODUCTION God is very much concerned about the comfort and welfare of His people. It is His utmost desire to bless, protect and provide for His children. God wants us to depend on Him as our source for every need of our lives. He is the rightful owner of the good of the land. The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof (Psalm24:1). The beast of the forest, silver and gold belong to the Lord (Psalm. 50:10, Haggai 2:8. God is the one that gives us power to get wealth [Deut.8:18] True prosperity is a function of divine connection. When you are connected to God and ready to obey Him whole heartedly, you will prosper. The believer must however pattern his/her life in obedience to God’s word in order to continually be a beneficiary of these divine blessings. How to demonstrate this obedience and be blessed of the Lord will be the focus of this study. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To understand the mind of God toward His children To identify the conditions attached to receiving blessing. To discover how we can demonstrate obedience to God....
Learn MoreCENTRAL THOUGHT: The Holy Spirit is given to the believer for empowerment and for service. Text: Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:1-13; John 14:15-27 INTRODUCTION The Holy Scriptures is full of references to the Spirit of God coming upon individuals and performing supernatural feats. The essence of the Holy Spirit has never been lost to any generation that walked with God. He is the agent of fellowship between man and his Maker. When a person accepts Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into life. This is the beginning of the new birth. He becomes a companion and guide to the believer in all matters of life and godliness. This initial presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a new believer is automatic, immediately such a believer confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life. However, this is not the ultimate. For the purpose of endowment and manifestation of ministerial gifts for the service of God, the believer is to experience another level of infilling by the Holy Spirit. This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that the disciples of Jesus experienced on the day of Pentecost. This infilling is heralded by a desire to receive and to function. No one can live to...
Learn MoreCENTRAL THOUGHT: Healing is the children’s bread. Text: Esther 4, 5, 6 (reading text; Esther 6:1-14) INTRODUCTION Esther was an orphan brought up by her cousin Mordecai in Shushan during the reign of Ahasuerus. She was made queen by the great hand and favor of God to be used of God to deliver the Jews from being exterminated. A fair girl, obedient to her parents and authorities, she found favor with the king to be made queen out of choice from seven others, who had gone through purification for one year. The enemy of the Jews, Haman through his hatred for Mordecai, had planned to exterminate the Jews. This plat came to the notice of Mordecai, who decided to use Esther the queen. Esther, ignorant of the plot merely sent clothes to Mordecai to replace sack-cloth he had on. When the plot was made known, she hesitated because of the royal statutes which forbade her to come before the king except on invitation. When she was challenged to consider why God had placed her there (4:14), she went into action and dared to believe God. God honored the general fasting and prayers called for by Esther. She was granted favor to see the king; Mordecai was honored...
