July 2020-Month of Prayer and Fasting

    July 2020   Greeting brethren, greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We thank God for bringing us to the midway mark of 2020. So much has happened but if you are reading this the Lord has kept you. Every year CGMI-NY sets aside the month of July strictly for praying and fasting. We can see that the times that we are in call for fasting and prayer. This years theme is taken from the book of Jeremiah 1:9-10. Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” Join us this month as we eagerly enter into the month of July Praying and fasting. Praying under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and as the Holy Spirit leads. Our prayer points this month is that the Lord will: 1.) Root Out (every plant that my heavenly father has not planted, Matthew 15:13). 2.) Pull down (every high thing that wants to exalt itself above God, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5). 3.) To destroy (every work of Satan, 1 John 3:8). 4.) To throw down (every demonic altar that has been established in your lineage, Judges 6:25-29). 5.) To build (your future, your altar to God, 2 Samuel 24:25). 6.) To plant (seeds of righteousness, power etc., 2 Corinthians 9:10). Let us not be deceived, we are in an all our war with the Kingdom of darkness. Take a look at all that went on this year thus far. We know that the enemy is planning however “He (the Lord) disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise”. Job 5:12. “Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them”. The Lord will make your enemies “to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host” as he magnified the sound of the 4 lepers (2 Kings 7:6). “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29 Isaiah 44:24-25 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish”. CENTRAL THOUGHT The events of the last days will indicate nothing but the certainty of Christ return. HYMN: SEEK NOT YET REPOSE TEXT: 2 Timothy 3 and 4 (Reading Text: 2 Timothy 3:1-9)   INTRODUCTION: While it is true that the scriptures do not give a definite time period called the last days, it is generally accepted that the last days refer to the time preceding the return of the Lord. A cursory look at the scriptures suggests that the last days constitute of a period between His ascension and return from heaven. The scriptures in the old testament declare “And it shall come to pass afterwards that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons…daughters… before the great and terrible day of the Lords coming” (Joel 2:28-31). This prophesy we find fulfilled first on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:16-17). And the Lord God further spoke, years after Jesus had ascended into heavens, “And that knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep, for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night far spent, the day is at hand; let us therefore cast odd the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:11-12). The stretch of “these last days” lies in the bosom of the Father of Spirit alone. Furthermore, we see some identity significant of this period from the attitude of men. God shows in Matthew 11:12 that “since the time of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent taketh it by force”. It is like men beholding at a distance and the end time, do dimly breast up to the responsibility of heart-empowered endeavor to press into the kingdom of heaven. Also, the bible says that “in the last days perilous times shall come” (2 Timothy 3:1), perhaps this one strikes the note and comes with the reality of the fact that we are in the last days already. The times are full of perils. From rural communities, regions and nations there are perils hanging loose. World events have helped to draw a picture of the perilous times which we are steeped into already. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To describe “these last days” and know its extent. 2. To appreciate the forces at work on “these last days”. 3. To know how the saints of God should live in “these last days”. 4. To appreciate the power of victory in “these last days”.   BIBLE TRUTH Question 1) DO “THESE LAST DAYS” HAVE A BEGINNING? We note at this point the essence and use of the phraseology “these last days” here is the understanding that there were also did corresponding early or first days. Yes, the Bible gives an account of Satan’s vain ambition over God. His heirs and loyal beings and all that they represent and own. (Isaiah 14:12-17, Ezekiel 28:12-19). CENTRAL THOUGHT Being faithful guarantees us a place of service to God and humanity. HYMN: MORE ABOUT JESUS, WOULD I KNOW   TEXT: Matt 24:45-51   INTRODUCTION Faithfulness is a disposition and virtue that should be evident in the life of every believer. It suggests allegiance to duty or a course or a person; it connotes steadfastness, conscientiousness, commitment, dedication, loyalty, and devotion. In other words, it refers to a disposition of being trustworthy, reliable, dependable, truthful and consistent with the truth no matter the consequences. Faithfulness happens to be one of the attributes of God. It is a character of God that galvanizes confidence in the hearts of every believer. Because of these attributes of God, the believer can stand firmly on his promises of salvation, deliverance, healing, protection, provisions, guidance, etc. The believer knows that from generation to generation, the Lord remains the same and what he did then, he can do again. Being children of God, we are expected to be like our father who is faithful. We are expected to be covenant keepers and the people whose word can be trusted. The faithfulness of the believer should be seen in the business dealings, in his relationships, in his workplace, in his school, and with whomever he interacts. It must stand out distinctly before everyone when this is not the case, then the genuineness of the face that the believer professes his cold question.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To know the meaning of faithfulness 2. To know ways by which believers can show acts of faithfulness 3. To discuss the importance of faithfulness in these last days. 4. To know the causes of unfaithfulness. 5. To know that faithfulness in little attracts greater responsibilities.   BIBLE TRUTH Q1. WHAT IS FAITHFULNESS? Faithfulness is strong devotion, adherence, and commitment to a person, idea or duty or a course. What we have just alluded to is an understanding of the word “faithfulness” in its broadest sense. However, in the present context, faithfulness refers to an ardent devotion to God and his divine plan of his dealings with humanity. For the believer, his first primary devotion is to the Lord. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength”. (Deut 6:5) it is from this devotion that the believer demonstrates his faithfulness to his neighbor, spouse in their marital relationship, in business, and other human relationships. Q2. IN WHAT AREAS SHOULD THE BELIEVER BE FAITHFUL? There are many areas of life that the believer should be faithful. However, as earlier indicated, the believer has to first and foremost he faithful to The Lord, and then it will be easy for him to be faithful in all these other areas that will be addressed. When we are faithful to God, we find pleasure in obeying his word. Our obedience to his word arises from the understanding that God cannot be separated from his word. GOD’S CONTROVERSY WITH HIS PEOPLE, June 14th, 2020

  CENTRAL THOUGHT Our walk with God is suspect when the condition of our hearts does not match the confession of our lips. Text: Psalms 50:1-23 INTRODUCTION: The impact that the Lord made on many of us at the new birth was so profound that we carry with us his glorious majesty into everything that we did. At the same time, our friends, neighbors and relations were overtaken with consternation at the mighty hand of God upon our lives. For some, this initial impact was not only sustained but it has taking wider dimensions as they are led by the Spirit, while for others it has degenerated into a religious form and pattern, with no life nor power. In many instances, this latter state comes quite subtly, but over time it becomes noticeable. Psalm 50 is used of the Lord to stir us back to life and vibrancy for him. It will not give us additional empty religious duties of giving offerings and attending Sunday church services, but it will start us to hunger and thirst for the Lord, as it was when we first knew Him. It will rekindle a request for our first love for Christ and His people. When this happens, the services we used to render in the body of Christ to appease the Pastor take a new meaning and appeal. There is now a burning desire to serve his body to please the Lord. Furthermore, our walk with Him is deepened and more intimate. Life’s issues no longer revolve around people but around the Lord. It may well be that it is this kind of regeneration that many of our impoverished hearts are yearning for. LESSON OBJECTIVES 1. To appreciate the Majesty of God. 2. To know what empty religion is. 3. To know how to return to our first love for God. 4. To know that the Lord rebukes the ungodly. 5. To know the way of salvation for the ungodly.   BIBLE TRUTH Q1. RECOUNT THE MAJESTY OF THE LORD IN PSALM 50:1-6. Psalm 50 opens with the phrase, “the mighty one, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth.” That simply reveals that our God is great in strength and might. To appreciate the greatness of His might, we find that when He speaks the earth is summoned. The greatness of the Lords strength is again revealed in Job 26:12, “By His power He churned (stirred) up the sea.” God’s power cannot be comparable to that of humans. Even the power of water in the form of floods9 and the massive devastation that they could cost does not still bring to true focus the extent of God’s power, nor wind power in tornadoes. “In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.” (1 Chron. 29:12) they appreciate this one because of the fact that their power is derived from the Lord and that they are only opportune to exercise it. The glory of the Lord is revealed to us in verse 2. “from Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.” How brilliant is this glory? REFLECTION OF PSALM 37, JUNE 7th, 2020

HYMN: NEARER MY GOD, TO THEE   CENTRAL THOUGHT Godly attitudes, when ardently developed, produce godly character, and will definitely produce a glorious destiny. INTRODUCTION It is commonly said that “money speaks”. Those who believe this statement most probably do not have any intimate relationship with God, except to call on him in crisis situations when money cannot render any help. When the Holy Spirit inspired David to unveil the secrets of the kingdom as recorded in Psalms 37, there were not as many wicked and probably wealthy individuals as we have today, but his word to the believer what’s timely and soothing: “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong” (Psalms 37:1). David went on to implore believers to develop godly attitudes which will produce a glorious destiny. No believer can afford to glance over the words of Psalms 37. He does and so at his own peril. Be he in opulence and splendor, Psalm 37:4 will do him a lot of good, “Delight yourself in the Lord”, or with little material gains, Psalms 37:16 is instructive, “better the little that the righteous have” (Psalm 37), therefore brings us into a privilege position of sharing in the rich experience of a man who had a close walk with the Lord. It is a psalm that the Lord could use to calm our wildest fears and relieve our stressed nerves. It is a psalm that urges us to hold tenaciously onto the Lord in spite of seemingly contradicting experiences of life.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To know some godly attitude that can sustain us under all circumstances. 2. To know that an ungodly life has no eternal gains. 3. To know the unfailing providences of God. 4. To know the contrasts between the rewards of the wicked and the righteous.   BIBLE TRUTH Q1. WHAT CHALLENGES CONFRONT THE BELIEVER IN TODAY’S TEXT? Experiences of persons who accepted Christ into their lives and our daily charting a course of a close walk with Him vary from place to place and from continent to continent. That should not be a surprise to any of us. Four instance the daily experiences of the believer in a war-torn country like Sierra Leone and those of a believer in a high-class neighborhood in California would be markedly different. The only thing that will be common to both believers will be this confession: “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.” (Psalms 107:1) they will in their contrasting environments see the glorious hand of the Lord all about them. We went to four with that example. We don’t need to travel across continents to identify daily experiences of believers that seem to contradict God’s word. All about us, the wicked seem to do much better in terms of wealth, material possessions and comforts of life than most believers. Some may naïvely attribute this to the fact that believers or lazy. They may not only be absurd but simply for from the truth. Some of the most hard-working individuals around are believers who have made God their sufficiency. CENTRAL THOUGHT The wickedness of the ungodly cannot annul the faithfulness of the Lord to His children. HYMN: STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS TEXT: Psalms 36:1-12   INTRODUCTION There seems to be some measure of glamor that goes with wicked ways and behaviors today that few persons shudder with a response like, “the Lord certainly must be very displeased”. That is because the fear of God is less widespread. People will rather do things on the basis of their comforts regardless of who is hurt and how God views those actions. While on a global scale there is injustice, man’s inhuman treatment of his fellow man, inequality, immortality, etc., within the confines of our homes, offices, workplaces, market placed, church congregations, there are miniature replications of these global trends. We need not, therefore, be too loud at raising our voices at the killings in Sierra, Leone, Somalia, and the United States among others, but take some time to examine our hearts the way we, for instance, assassinate the character of a colleague through gossip. Then, with David, we will come to appreciate the attributes of the Lord and a holy fear of God will mold our actions. Psalm 36 gains our attention today, bringing to focus the ways of the ungodly that are contrasted by the divine personally of God – the just, loving, faithful, and righteous and mighty God. With some element of naivety, the wicked would not appreciate how the Lord graciously bestows on both the godly and ungodly His divine attributes. David prays, “Continue your love to those who know you”, Psalm 36:10a, NIV, and that is a great comfort for the godly at heart. The prayer is answered and the wicked are uprooted. Here is wisdom, “he who has an ear to hear, let him take this to heart”. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To identify the ways of the wicked. 2. To know some of the attributes of God. 3. To know how God’s attributes are reflected in His dealings with man. 4. To know that the Lord hears the prayers of the righteous. 5. To know that the righteous are preserved from the works of the wicked. BIBLE TRUTH 1. HOW DOES DAVID’S DESCRIPTION OF THE GODLESS FIT TODAY’S UNGODLY MAN? David described the ungodly as on who does not fear the Lord, deceives himself into the believing that he does nothing wrong, uses his mouth to contrive evil and to deceive others, lacks wisdom and discretion, takes every opportunity, even on the comfort of his bed, to conceive evil deeds, pursues a course to execute his evil ways, and fails to reject that which is wrong, Psalm 36:1-4. This description of the ungodly is aptly summarized by the observation made by the Lord of Noah’s generation: “And God saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of his heart was only evil continually”, Genesis 6:5. What comes to mind is that the character of the ungodly has remain unchanged from generation of generation. Even on the verge of the 21st century and with all the refinements that men and women seem to have undergone, the character of the individual without Christ has remained the same. CENTRAL THOUGHT The salvation of a sinner brings joy to the witness, the convert the church and heaven.   HYMN: I’VE A MESSAGE FROM THE LORD, HALLELUJAH TEXT: Luke 15:1-10, 19:5-10, 23:34-46; John 4:4-7 INTRODUCTION: The lost are those who are living outside of the grace of God. They are lost in that if they were to die now they will certainly end up in everlasting hell fire. In other words, those whose sins are not forgiven are lost for eternity. This is not God’s desire for man because He created man to have fellowship with Him. At the Garden of Eden, when Adam disobeyed God man lost this fellowship. He became a servant to the devil. Christ came into the world to bring man back to his created place with God. Hence much of Christ’s ministry was devoted to seeking the lost. The greater part of His attention was focused on bringing the lost to God. When Christ completed His assignment on earth, He committed the work of reconciliation to His disciples who are the believers, the Christians. This is an assignment that is in the heart of God, which every child of His must diligently participate in. The Apostles and the early church followed Christ’s example of seeking the lost. They spent much of their time, energy and resources in bringing the lost into the fold with some of them (disciples) dying in the process. We cannot afford to do less. We must be involved in seeking the lost by participating in personal evangelism, by inviting them to our church, fellowship programs, and maintaining a lifestyle that is positively contagious to the unsaved. Every of our words and actions must be to win the sinner to Christ. There is great joy on earth and in heaven over every sinner that repents. God is depending on you and I. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: 1. To know that believers are responsible for seeking the lost and bringing them to Christ. 2. To understand how sinners respond to the message of the gospel. 3. To know why the Lord is concerned about the lost. 4. To know that there are rewards for soul-winners. BIBLE TRUTH: 1. WHAT IS THE BELIEVER’S ROLE IN SEEKING THE LOST? In Luke 5:32, the Lord Jesus, told his listeners that He came to the world to call sinners (the lost) to repentance. Before He departed for heaven, He commanded us to go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, Mark 16:15-16. Jesus while calling Peter and Andrew to follow Him told them that His desire for them was to become fishers of men, Mark 1:17. This is still His expectation of all His followers today. It is therefore the responsibility of every believer to bring others to the Lord Jesus. The sinner in most cases will not of his own accord go to Jesus for salvation. Someone must introduce him to the Master who is able to move the weight of sin off his shoulder. God has committed to us the ministry of reconciliation, 2 Corinthians 5:19. This is a responsibility we must take seriously as the Lord depends on us to introduce Him to the lost. Thus, it is our responsibility to invite the lost to Christ....

THE NECESSITY OF PERSONAL EVANGELISM, May 17th, 2020

  CENTRAL THOUGHT God expects the believer to tell others of His saving grace in their lives. HYMN: MUST I GO, AND EMPTY HANDED? TEXT: Luke 9:59-62; 1 Corinthians :16-23; John 4:27-30 INTRODUCTION: The Lord Jesus shortly before He departed this earth commanded His disciples to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature. For this is the purpose of His suffering and death on the cross. The message of redemption must be proclaimed all over the world to everyone. God is not interested in the death of any sinner, 2 Peter 3:9, but that all should come to repentance. This has become the number one task for the church. This task should be more of an individual duty than that of a group. Thus, believers as individuals must be involved in personal evangelism as a matter of course. The tendency however is for most believers to depend on the church-organized group activities to bring the sinner to the church and to Christ. While this is acceptable and should be encouraged, we tend to neglect the most effective method which is the personal touch. The one-on -one contact gives room for frank discussion devoid of repentance and suspicion. It is easier to win with confidence of the sinner. The atmosphere developed on friendship is more successful in leading the sinner to Christ. The sinner needs a friend who can come to his or her level and appreciates his state. It is easier to demonstrate love in personal evangelism that in mass program. Personal evangelism requires a dedicated and committed believer who will be ready to give his time and other resources in order to reach out to the lost. There is a great sense of joy and fulfillment in that believer who regularly participates I his exercise. Let us use every opportunity we have to make friend with the sinner with the aim of leading them to the Lord Jesus Christ. LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To understand what personal evangelism is. To appreciate the necessity for personal evangelism. To know that it is a priority with God. To know the dangers of indifference to personal evangelism. To explore the reasons why some believers fail to participate in personal evangelism. To know that there are rewards for the believer who is committed to personal evangelism. BIBLE TRUTH WHAT IS PERSONAL EVANGELISM? Mark 5:19 In the above scripture, Jesus told the man who was formerly possessed by a legion of demons to go and tell members of his household what had happened to him. We also observe that the woman at the well in John 4:20-21 went into the city telling everyone she came across about her encounter with Jesus. In Mark 8:2, Jesus told the man healed of leprosy to go and show himself to the priests. In Acts 26, Pal testified before Festus and Agripa of his encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus. The lesson here is that all these people spoke of their personal encounter, or revelation, or knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is personal evangelism.   CENTRAL THOUGHT Submission is a pathway to upliftment.   HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD TEXT: 1 Peter 2:11- 3:8 INTRODUCTION Human life in an ordered society requires some levels of authority. God intends that some people exercise power and authority over others for the collective good of all. A serious problem occurs, however, when someone who has such God-given authority and power does not know how to use them. Peter advised younger people to submit themselves to the elders 1 Peter 5:5. He also reminded all believers irrespective of their positions in life to be submissive to one another and to be clothed with humility. He went on to say that God “gives grace to the humble” and that God would exalt such a person “in due time” 1 Peter 5:6. Submission was the true nature of our Savior when He was here one earth physically. The will of the Father was invariably His will. John 4:34. Matt 25:39. God does not expect anything less than that from His children. We are to submit our lives, possessions, and will to Him at all times. In addition, God has set up authorities in homes, churches, offices, and societies to regulate relationships. Submission to such authorities is submission to God who set them up. A good way to please our God is by submitting ourselves to one another in interpersonal relationships as well as humbling our individual and collective will under the mighty hand of God. This promotes harmony and attracts God’s favor.   LESSON OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study are: To know what submission means To know that spiritual implication of submission To know what submission is at all levels of human relationships BIBLE TRUTH WHAT IS SUBMISSION? To submit is to voluntarily place oneself under the power, authority, control, care, protection, and guidance of another, usually a superior. God teaches clearly from scripture that He expects us to respect and submit to leaders both spiritual and secular as those He has placed over us for our own good. Rom. 13:1, 1 Thess. 5:12-13. A person who is unwilling to follow is unprepared to lead. Submission goes beyond mere profession. Everyone is expected to show by his actions that he is actually consecrated and submitted first to the Lord, then to our superiors and to one another. God expects us irrespective of our social status, age, experience, and achievement in life to be humble and submissive to leadership and to one another. We are to sink our egos, personal opinions and differences and accept unreservedly and whole heartedly to the leadership and authority that God has placed over us. This makes for a disciplined and wholesome society as well as fellowship. A submissive person always sees himself as a servant to all, thinks soberly, and is wholly submitted to God and human authorities. He gives due regard and respect to the person and opinion of others. He does not oppress others. He is most willing to be defrauded if only that could engender peace and prevent approach from coming to the church. 1 Cor. 6:7.
