Hymn: WHEN ALL THY MERCIES, O MY GOD CENTRAL THOUGHTThere is no amount of religious camouflage that can make up for sin and unfaithfulness to the Lord. INTRODUCTION:In this second part of the lessons on the book of Jeremiah, we observe the unfolding of the ministry of Jeremiah to the nation of Judah. For about 40 years, Jeremiah served as God’s spokesperson to the kings and people of Judah (Southern Kingdom) during the reigns of Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. As alluded in the first lesson the task was not a mean one but was characterized by opposition and fierce resistance from the people and kings who had sold their hearts to foreign gods, abomination, wicked and oppressive ways. It was a case of if “the people-would-heed-the-word-of-the- Lord”, then hope and restoration will be theirs from the Lord. It will avert the imminent judgement of God from the Babylonian empire. The response of Judah in the days of Jeremiah to the word of the Lord is very similar to what we observe today. Instead of repentance, there was an increase in sophisticated religious practices; instead of a return to righteous ways, people chose to trust in emblems of religion-the magnificent temple built by king Solomon.Today, we pride ourselves in our “mega churches” of thousands of members and the accompanying huge offerings. These religious camouflages cannot serve as substitute for holiness. LESSON OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this study are:1.To know the sins of Judah in Jeremiah’s time2.To draw parallels of Judah’s sins and those of our times3.To identify the consequences of Judah’s sins4.To know the only remedy for sin5.To be like Jeremiah, the voice of hope for a dying world. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) WHAT WERE THE SINS OF JUDAH?Through Jeremiah the Lord asked rhetorically the nation of Judah, “what fault did your fathers find in me, that they strayed so far from me?”. He went further and stated, “they followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves” (Jer. 2:5). One of the sins of Judah was that they left following after the God who saved them from Egypt and took them miraculously through the desert into the Promise land and began to worship the gods of the surrounding nations. Because the gods were worthless idols, they also became worthless. Jeremiah further elaborates by stating the two sins of Judah of forsaking the “fountain of living water,” and taking on “broken cisterns that cannot hold water”. (Jer. 2:13). That is very typical of the baits the devil offers till this day. Sadly, many clamors for these baits only to find utter emptiness and disillusionment. Paul made a similar point about the state of those who fail to retain the knowledge of God in their hearts in Romans 1:28. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient”. Israel had experienced the glory and power of God in the 10 plagues in Egypt, culminating in the death of the first born of every Egyptian (Ex. 12:29-30), the provisions in the desert so that their sandals did not wear off (Deut. 29:5), the Red sea parted so they could cross on dry land (Ex. 14:21-22), ate food from heaven (Ex. 16:11- 15), water from...

CENTRAL THOUGHTA godly conditioned heart is of great value. Hymn: “ WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS”. TEXT: JEREMIAH 1:1-19 INTRODUCTION:It is not unusual to be overwhelmed by circumstances and challenges that a new venture presents. After proper assessment of our capabilities in relation to the imperatives, demands and responsibilities of such a venture or project we either decline or proceed with it. The call of God on Jeremiah to present His divine perspective to the kings and people of Judah was an enormous task. It meant that Jeremiah will be the voice of God to the nation. The task would not have been overwhelming if it was nation whose people and leaders followed the Lord, but for most of the time that was not the case. When Jeremiah began his ministry, the Northern Kingdom of Israel had already been in captivity to Assyria for nearly one hundred years. Of the five kings during whose reigns Jeremiah prophesied, two ruled only for 3 months. These were Jehoahaz (2 Kings 23:31-33) and Jehoiachin (2 Kings 24:6-16). They were both evil kings who perpetuated the evil deeds of previous kings like Ahaz (2 Kings 16:1-4), Manasseh (2 Kings 21:1-6) and Amon (2 Kings 21:19-22). During Josiah’s reign when Jeremiah began his ministry, an attempt was made by the king to restore Judah to the true worship of God. This was after the evil reigns of Manasseh and Amon. The state of moral decay the nation was in can only be imagined. Called as a young man at this time of reformation, Jeremiah could only see his limitations. He knew the enormity of the task ahead of him and needed the reassurance form the Lord to take up the responsibility of being the spokesperson for God in a depraved nation. The depravity of our times is truly daunting. To speak the mind of God that reflects His holiness is certainly not popular, hence few do so. LESSON OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this study are:1.To know how God called Jeremiah.2.To learn from the response of Jeremiah when God called him3.To understand the implications of God’s call on His children4.To know that excuses have no place in the scheme of God’s plans5.To appreciate how God’s grace and provisions overcome every excuse we may have. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) WHEN DID THE LORD START TO PREPARE JEREMIAH FOR THE MINISTRY? WHAT DOES THIS TEACH US ABOUT THE ENDOWING GRACE OF THE LORD?Every human being comes forth to the earth through the womb of a woman. Although this process of birth is a natural one, all persons in the medical profession who have deeper insight into it know that it is a most fascinating and intriguing process. The Psalmist’s insight into it comes from Psalm 139:13-14. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well”. The outcome of every birth process is unique, even when it results in twins or triplets, each of whom has his/her unique traits. When the word of the Lord first came to Jeremiah, he thought he was like every other child that resulted from the natural process of birth, and that is how most of us think of ourselves. The...

Hymn: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD CENTRAL THOUGHTTithe and Offering are obligations of the Christian done in honor to God. TEXT: MAL 3:7-12, PROV. 3:9-10, GEN 14:18-20 INTRODUCTION:The payment of tithe was first mentioned in the Bible in Genesis 14:20 when Abraham gave tithes of his goods to Melchizedek; the priest of the Most High God.The tithing system was practiced during the time of Moses (Lev. 27:30-34; Deut. 14:22) and the Israelites were expected to give one tenth of their earnings in cash or kind for the upkeep of the Levites and administration of the Temple. This continued until the time of Malachi when the people refused to give tithes and the Levites went to work to earn a living, thereby neglecting their God-given responsibilities to care for the Temple. God became angry and unhappy with His people for their refusal to give tithe and offering. In the present-day Church, the main source of income is through tithe and offering. Without it, financial obligations will be left unattended to. This makes it imperative for every believer to pay his tithe and give offering for the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth. Deferred payment or part payment is not encouraged as it attracts twenty percent interest, Lev. 27:31.Every believer should be taught that to tithe is an honor to the Lord and is part of true worship. They should be encouraged to honor God with their tithe and offering willingly and cheerfully if they are to reap God’s benefit in this respect. People should not be compelled to give under any guise as they will not be blessed if they give grudgingly. Believers who do not pay tithe give room to the devil to devour the labor of their hands and afflict their bodies with sicknesses.Every believer should endeavor to pay his tithe and give offering in proportion to God’s blessing upon his life. LESSON OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this study are: To know what tithe and offering means. To know why we should pay our tithes and give offerings. To know the people that should pay tithe and give offering. To know the consequences of not paying tithe and not giving offering. To know the benefits of paying tithe and giving offering. BIBLE TRUTH: QUESTION 1) BRIEFLY EXPLAIN THE MEANING OF TITHE AND OFFERING.Tithe means one tenth or the tenth part of a whole or of a certain quantity. Tithing is the payment of the tenth part or one tenth of one’s income. Income in this sense means whatever accrues as a profit or gain or one’s income. Tithe can either be in cash or material things. It is important to state clearly that tithes absolutely belong to God, Lev. 27:30, and should be paid willingly and in faith not by compulsion. Any occasion that will result in part payment or deferred payment will attract 20 percent interest. It is also important to emphasize that one should consistently and prayerfully tithe his profit or income. An offering is anything offered or given or presented as a gift to someone in appreciation of who the person is or what he has done. In relation to our service to God, it is that gift (usually money) we present to Him in appreciation of who He is to us. Every worshipper of God...

Hymn: I am Thine O Lord CENTRAL THOUGHTDedication and loyalty are attributes which God expects of every believer. TEXT: 1 THESS. 2:1-20, JER. 35:1-19 INTRODUCTION:Dedication means giving of or devoting our time, energy and resources to a cause or a purpose, belief or person. For the believer, dedication is unto God and this involves a whole hearted commitment to Him, His word, work and people. Loyalty on the other hand means to be true and faithful to a cause, purpose, idea or person. To us as believers it involves our total obedience and submission to the will and purposes of God, Jesus said “ I must work the works of Him who sent me….(John 9:4). He was loyal to His Father. So, we must be to the Lord.People could be dedicated to a cause out of compulsion, for eye-service, or for vain and self-glory. Thus, we see that even when the purpose of such a cause or person is not too clear or fully understood, some people still follow blindly giving their time, talent, and other resources. God does not desire us to follow Him blindly, or without a clear motive or purpose. In fact, He desires us to follow Him with a clear conscience and understanding. In this way, we open ourselves up for His infinite blessings.Ignorance has made some believers to form the habit of giving God their leisure time instead of seeking first His kingdom and righteousness. Some have become seasonal Christians exhibiting an uncaring attitude towards the things of God. He expects His people to be fully dedicated and loyal to Him at all times so that He can manifest His glory through His chosen treasures. The prophets and the early Church that lived a victorious life were dedicated and loyal even unto death. We must have the same mind in order to live a victorious Christian life. LESSON OBJECTIVESThe objectives of this study are: To know that God expects us to be fully dedicated and loyal to Him always. To know that dedication is essential for Christian maturity. To know the areas in which we must demonstrate loyalty and dedication. To know that half-hearted dedication is unacceptable to God. To know that the Holy Spirit cannot operate in a person or group that lacks dedication and loyalty. To know that dedication and loyalty opens the door for unlimited blessings from God. BIBLE TRUTH: QUESTION 1) HOW IMPORTANT ARE DEDICATION AND LOYALTY IN CHRISTIAN GROWTH AND MATURITY?Dedication and loyalty are two characteristics that we must have if we be faithful to God. They are also a mark of Christian maturity. Dedication ensures that we are wholly given to God and His word. When we are dedicated to our faith as believers then we will not need to be pushed to serve God. We know and find it absolutely important to be in full service for the Lord. We will not need to be told to study the Scriptures, spend meaningful time in prayers and be active in the house of the Lord. By giving ourselves and all that is ours to the service of God and the Church, we find tremendous strength in God that enables us to grow. We graduate quickly from just “taking milk to eating real meat”. There is no way we...

HYMN: RECEIVING FROM GOD CENTRAL THOUGHTGod, who is our source, is ever willing to answer our needs. TEXT: MATT. 7:7-11, JOHN 14:13-14, JAMES 4:1-4INTRODUCTION:The believer in Christ has every reason to be perpetually joyful because of the tremendous promises of God as a result of the finished work that Christ has accomplished by His death and resurrection. The promises contain benefits, rights, privileges, inheritances, and blessings for the believer. Since these benefits have been duly paid for by Christ, it is futile for anyone to strive to attain them by his own strength or effort. These benefits are free for those already washed in the blood of Christ. In this lesson, we want to establish how a believer can fully appropriate these promises and benefits. The phrase “Receiving from God” simply means getting from God. There is the giver and there is the receiver. The giver who is superior is the Almighty God who gives liberally to whosoever wishes to receive (receiver). This study hopes to acquaint “whosoever” chooses or wishes to be a receiver with the conditions of receiving from the Almighty giver. David recognized that it is only God that could give, hence he trusted wholeheartedly in the Almighty God. Therefore, we should note that our help comes only from the Lord. LESSON OBJECTIVES To know what the phrase “Receiving from God” means. To know that God wants you receive from Him. To know some of the things that can hinder us from receiving from God. To understand these conditions that will make us receive from God. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE PHRASE “RECEIVING FROM GOD”?Receiving from God means getting from God. God’s care of human beings and all He has created, is manifested in His dealings with man. God did not create man to leave him uncatered to and without direction. In the garden of Eden, He made provision for the first man (Gen. 1:29-30). God went further to provide for the spiritual needs of man. This He did by the promise of the Son of the LORD, Jesus Christ, as the seed of the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent (Gen. 3:15). Receiving from God is therefore an act of getting those things He has provided for us. It includes an appropriation of His promises to us as revealed in scripture. The Almighty God gives liberally to whosoever wishes to receive. He is the giver who knows what we have need for. We only receive those things which God judges are right for us to receive. We are therefore free to believe God for those things which He has promised in His word to give us. QUESTION 2) DOES GOD WANT YOU TO RECEIVE FROM HIM? Matt. 7:7-8, John 14:13-14, Phi. 4:6. Certainly, the LORD wants us to receive from Him. His promise in John 14:13-14, is that whatsoever we ask in His name, will be given to us. As stated earlier, God takes special care of those who trust in and belong to Him. He does this for several reasons.A. We are made in His image and likeness. God gives and we receive to show that we are made in His image and likeness. If we have lack and live a deprived life, then we cannot show...

Posted by Admin on 4:00 pm in Sunday School | Comments Off on JESUS CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK, JANUARY 4TH, 2026
Hymn: MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS CENTRAL THOUGHTBuilding on Christ the solid rock guarantees eternal reward. TEXT: MATTHEW 16:13-18; 7:24- 27; 1 PETER 2:4-8INTRODUCTION:Prophet Isaiah, one of the Old Testament prophets moved by the Spirit of God, revealed over 2000 years ago, God’s plan to lay in Zion a tested stone (solid dependable, reliable), a precious Cornerstone (invaluable) for a sure foundation, and anyone who believes or trusts in Him will never be dismayed. We also find that Apostle Paul while admonishing the Church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 10:1-10, warned against the dangers and consequences of backsliding and unbelief. He reminded them of the Israelites who all ate spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink from the Spiritual Rock that followed them, which is Christ. God was not pleased with the great majority of them, and they were destroyed in the wilderness. They did not believe God, nor did they trust in His salvation. God’s mind for His people has ever been for them to build their faith in Christ. He is the tried, tested, proved, solid dependable, reliable Rock and the only foundation laid by the Sovereign Lord Himself. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). A building is only as solid as its foundation. The foundation of our lives is Jesus Christ; He is our base, our reason for existence. Everything we are and do, must fit into the pattern provided by Him. Are we building our lives on the only real and lasting foundation, or are we building on a faulty foundation such as wealth, security, success, or fame? Our faith hope and life must be built on Christ the Solid Rock, and His finished work on the cross of Calvary; not on any other principle or anything else. LESSON OBJECTIVES1.) To know that Jesus Christ is the Solid Rock and sure foundation.2.) To know how to build upon Christ.3.) To know that building on any other foundation is futile.4.) To know the benefits of building on Christ the Solid Rock BIBLE TRUTH: QUESTION 1) WHO IS THE SOLID ROCK AND SURE FOUNDATION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH?Isaiah 28:16, 1 Peter 2:5-8, 1 Corinthians 3:11, Matt 16:13-18.The Scripture declares “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). Also “…Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded” (1 Peter 2:6). Indeed, Jesus Christ, the Messiah is the Solid Rock and sure foundation. He is the source of eternal life and one who provides succor, fulfillment and satisfaction to all those who trust in Him. He is the cornerstone, the tested and firm foundation upon whom we build our faith and hope. Christ is completely dependable and absolutely reliable; he is precious to the believer. Our Lord Jesus Christ is called “stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence” (1 Peter 2:8). Some will stumble over Christ because they reject Him or refuse to believe that He is who He says He is. Ps. 118:22 says that “the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone” the most important part of the building, the Church. In the same way...

Hymn: “While shepherds watched their flocks” CENTRAL THOUGHTThe coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is at hand; there is need for the believer to be ready. TEXT: TEXT: REV.3:11, 22:7-12; 1 THESS.5:1-11.INTRODUCTION:Man was separated from God as a result of disobedience to God’s instruction. That action by man distorted the entire course of creation. In reaction, God had to immediately initiate a remedial plan for the return of man to true relationship with his maker. This plan of reconciliation was unfolded in the birth, ministry, death/sacrifice and resurrection/triumph of Christ for the redemption of man from eternal damnation. This restored to man the privilege and opportunity to be saved. At resurrection, Jesus ascended to the presence of God and left no doubt about His return, this time not as a sacrificial lamb, but as a king and judge of all creation. The second coming of Christ is a subject not many are talking about today, even within the body of Christ. The pilgrim status of the church is fast fading and her mission to rescue the lost is being diluted. The second coming of Christ is the blessed hope of the church that should attract enthusiasm and eagerness on the part of every believer. God’s program for the earth is gradually winding up. Every sign given by Christ is being fulfilled at a very rapid rate. This reminder of the second coming is a call to every believer to prepare adequately and be in constant vigilance for this long-expected event. LESSON OBJECTIVESThe purpose of this lesson shall be to: Establish the meaning, reason for and timing of the second coming of Christ. Examine the signs heralding the second coming. List the expected conduct of believers in these last days. Discuss the benefits believers will get from the second coming of Christ. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) EXPLAIN THE MEANING, REASON FOR AND TIMING OF THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST.One of the cardinal articles of the Christian faith is that Christ is coming back to the earth, to judge the living and the dead. The second coming is the literal visible return of the Lord Jesus to the earth in company of his saints. The fact of this return was prophesized in Zech.14:4-5 and confirmed in Acts 1:11.He is coming in His power and majesty to deliver an end the whole of creation from the bondage of disobedience and corruption into the glorious liberty of fellowship with God. His coming will establish His reign over nations and he shall set up an everlasting kingdom. He will put down every religion against God and institute a universal worship that recognizes the authority of God. He is coming to take vengeance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel. (2 Thess.1:8).God has chosen to keep away from man the specific timing of the return. It will bear the elements of surprise and speed and will be universally acknowledged. However, out of love, Jesus Christ elected to reveal numerous signs that will signal his imminent return. This revelation is a package for the church to decode and sufficiently be in readiness to receive Him and be received of Him. QUESTION 2) WHAT ARE THE SIGNS HERALDING THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST? MATT.24:3-14.We will discuss these signs under three broad subheads, namely Spiritual...

Posted by Admin on 4:34 pm in Sunday School | Comments Off on IT IS GOOD TO GIVE THANKS, DECEMBER 21ST, 2025
Hymn: “ PRAISE MY SOUL, THE KING OF HEAVEN” Thanksgiving is appreciating GOD for His blessings. TEXT: GENESIS 4:2-7; PSALM 92:1-3; LUKE 17:12-19 INTRODUCTION:It is good to give thanks unto the Lord. An act of thanksgiving from a recipient of a favor naturally gladdens the heart of the one who had demonstrated the act of kindness or favor. It is really good and pleasing to give thanks unto the Lord, but our insatiable and greedy nature hardly allows us see reasons to give thanks to God. Sometimes, we allow a seemingly unanswered prayer or unrealized ambition to becloud our brow. When we realize that we exist by the grace of God, we will then understand that giving thanks to God is a necessity. We do no favor to God when we give Him thanks. He does not need us to exist; but without Him, we cannot exist. It behooves us therefore, to give Him thanks always for our existence. Apart from this, there are innumerable reasons why we need to give God thanks; for example, the salvation of our soul, which also is a free gift from God. The Scripture clearly made us to understand that everything that pertains to life and godliness have been given to us by God, 2 Peter 1:3. That we are yet to access those things, should not be a reason why we should hesitate to give thanks to God for His goodness. To refuse to give thanks to God is not only a sign of ingratitude by an act of wickedness. In this study, we shall be discussing what thanksgiving is and its relevance in our Christian life. LESSON OBJECTIVES To understand what thanksgiving is. To know why it is necessary to give thanks. To know the features that make thanksgiving acceptable. To know the way thanksgiving should be expressed. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) WHAT IS THANKSGIVING?Thanksgiving is an expression of a good feeling for help or favor received; a grateful thought expressed orally or by action in relation to an occurrence; showing gratitude for mercy or benefit enjoyed. It is also an expression of appreciation for an existing condition or privilege being enjoyed by someone. Thanksgiving acts as an intuition to make people repeat or extend the scope of acts of kindness they have done. It is a product of a merry heart. Absence of thanksgiving can dampen the enthusiasm to show or continue to show kindness. It testifies of the goodness of the person to whom it is directed. Thanksgiving acts as a lubricant to the wheel of good relationship with God. QUESTION 2) WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO GIVE THANKS?Thanksgiving is necessary because it is God’s expectation from us, 1 Thessalonians 5:18. If we consider it necessary to show appreciation for a kind gesture, to give thanks becomes imperative. It is the will of God that we should give thanks always, and our obedience to the will of God increases our chances of obtaining His promises, Hebrews 10:36. Thanksgiving sometimes gives us opportunity to grow in understanding the role of our faith in receiving blessings from God, Luke 17:16. QUESTION 3) WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF AN ACCEPTABLE THANKSGIVING?For a thanksgiving to be acceptable to God, it must conform to the standard of the Scripture; it must come from a grateful...

Posted by Admin on 7:56 pm in Sunday School | Comments Off on THE BIRTH OF CHRIST (PART 1), DECEMBER 7TH, 2025
Hymn: HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING CENTRAL THOUGHTThe birth of Jesus Christ brought redemption to mankind. TEXT: MATTHEW 1:1-25 INTRODUCTION For over 400 years since the last Old Testament prophecies, The Jews waited for a leader who had been promised centuries before by inspired prophets. They believed that this leader would rescue them from their Roman oppressors and establish a new kingdom but overlooked the prophecies which spoke of Him as a suffering servant who would be rejected and killed. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING PROPHESIES CONCERNING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST. GENESIS 3:15, 49:10; ISAIAH 7:14, 9:6-7 & MICAH 5:2In Genesis 3:15, we read “And I will put enmity between the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel”. As God was passing sentences on man for his disobedience, He made a gracious promise of Christ as the deliverer of fallen man from the power of Satan. This promise was made to the hearing of our first parents, who doubtless, saw a door of hope opened to them. Our enemy will do anything he can do to get us to follow his evil path. God magnifies His grace in that though the woman was first in the transgression, yet she shall be saved in child bearing, i.e. by the promised seed who shall descend from her.“The scepter shall not depart from Judah. . .” Genesis 49:10. This meant that Judah’s line would produce the promised Messiah, Jesus. “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son . . . Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14. Prophet Isaiah in God’s name gave a sign of goodwill to Israel and to the house of David. In Isaiah 9:6-7, God also promised His people a Savior that will bring light to their dark world. He promised to send a Light who would shine on everyone living in the shadow of death. This light is both Might God (all powerful) and Counselor (all loving). In Micah 5:2, Prophet Micah accurately predicted Christ’s birthplace hundreds of years before He was born.Bethlehem signifies the house of bread, the fittest place for Him to be born in whom is the bread of life. Also, because it was the city of David, by a special providence, it was ordered the He should be born there. QUESTION 2) WHAT ENCOURAGEMENTS CAN WE DERIVE FROM THE FULFILLMENT OF THESE PROPHESIES?Habakkuk 2:3 reads, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry”. Also, in Proverbs 23:18, we read “For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off”. Quite often, we are faced with situations that the devil will want to use to make us doubt the certainty of God’s promises. Sometimes, one may be passing through some experiences where one expects immediate intervention from God, but to such a person, it may appear that God is delaying in responding to the matter in question. We often complain seriously to God as if He has abandoned us. His answer to us is to be patient because He will work out His plans in His perfect...

CENTRAL THOUGHTThe believer should tenaciously/wholeheartedly trust in the Lord in times like these. TEXT: ISAIAH 37:1-20 (ISAIAH 36)INTRODUCTION:A proper observation of the events of our society today will reveal that Satan our archenemy is mounting pressure on people to lower the standards of morality and holy living. The church of today is under severe pressure as never before, to compromise our heritage of salvation. The devil knows very well that time is running out on him and that the second coming of Christ is closer now than ever before. Consequently, there is a multiplied effort to attack Christians with all forms of distractions resulting in all forms of ungodliness, falsehood, hypocrisy, threat to life, weakness, errors, persecutions and corruption of hearts and minds, especially casting doubts in people’s minds not to trust or rely on God, the Almighty Father. We are in crisis times, already indicated in the Scriptures when men’s hearts are failing them, due to the lack of trust in God. There is lack of confidence in God among families, friends and even nations in this end time, hence the need for this study on the place of trust in the Lord. LESSON OBJECTIVESAt the end of this lesson, we shall be able to: Explain what it means to trust in the Lord. Identify the challenges we do encounter and how to handle the situations, using the life of King Hezekiah. List and explain the reasons why believers should trust in the Lord. Itemize and discuss the benefits of trusting in the Lord. BIBLE TRUTH:QUESTION 1) WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO TRUST IN THE LORD?To trust in the Lord simply means to place confidence in or reliance on God concerning anything presently or in the future. No one is competent to carry out the responsibilities of God’s calling in his or her own strength. Our trust should not be self-confidence but confidence in the sufficiency of God who empowers life and ministry in the reality of the new covenant. To overcome the stress or pressure of our time and remain Christ witnesses, we need the character and strength that only God gives. Recognize that the ability and power to minister comes from Him alone; so, trust in Him for your daily victory. QUESTION 2A) WHAT CHALLENGE DID HEZEKIAH FACE? ISAIAH 36The historical setting of this chapter is the ill-fated invasion of Jerusalem by Sennacherib in 701 BC. Judah, under King Ahaz had made an alliance with and paid tribute to Assyria, Because of fear of invasion by Assyria, Hezekiah alongside with leaders of other nations had wrongly made an alliance with Egypt. Sennacherib invaded to put down the rebellion. Rabshakeh (an Aramic word denoting a title meaning “Cupbearer” or “field marshal” or “Chief of staff”) deridingly suggested that Hezekiah had destroyed Yahweh’s places of worship. He further argued that Yahweh told him to destroy Judah because of the destruction of His places of worship.Another challenge he had was that his people faced starvation since the city was under siege resulting in no going out and no coming in of the fenced cities. Rabshakeh made his threats in Hebrew language rather than the Aramaic, the diplomatic language, in order to intimidate the soldiers on the wall. He cast doubts on Hezekiah’s integrity and recalls Assyria’s seemingly endless militaryvictories. He tried...
